Often the most overlooked yet critical areas of furniture, the bones or core of your piece are the differentiators between a quality job and a lackluster one. Joints often need to be re-glued, springs have lost their tautness, and webbing no longer provides support. Let’s get your furniture feeling solid again.
Loose and broken joints: Most vintage furniture was held together with dowels and glue; over time, these high-stress areas often need repair.
Cracked or split frame rails: Joints need to be re-glued; springs may have lost their tautness, and webbing may have failed.
Snapped webbing: Jute, polyester, or elastic webbing is not meant to last forever. These materials need to be replaced in order to give support and comfort back to your furniture.
Springs: Re-tied, re-tensioned, or replaced as needed.
Wood refinishing: Treatment for exposed wood like teak, rosewood, walnut, and oak.
What I repair
"My chair wobbles" — Almost always a loose joint or bracket. It is a straightforward repair, but it will worsen over time if left unattended.
Can it be fixed?
"It creaks when I sit down" — Creaks happen for a plethora of reasons, almost always in connecting areas—from joints that are rubbing and bolts that are loose to screws that are rattling.
Exposed decorative wood on furniture often sustains the most damage throughout a piece's lifetime. Oily woods like teak get dry over time, and I'll often see furniture that has been sitting in storage or even out in the elements, leading to the severe degradation of decorative wood. Thankfully, these pieces can often be completely restored, even when heavily damaged.
Sometimes decorative wood develops a beautiful patina over its lifetime. I love furniture that tells a story, so I am also happy to restore pieces without completely stripping away their character if preserving that history is important to you.
Wood and frame restoration
Unfortunately, some mass-produced pieces use cheaper materials like particle board, MDF, plastics, or even aluminum screws that simply aren't designed to last for decades. I am always upfront if I feel your return on investment might not be worth it for a particular piece. With that being said, sometimes sentimental value far outweighs the actual monetary value of furniture. I totally understand this; we can try to remedy structural issues if possible and will work closely with you to find the best solution.
